Alois Mugadza, our new Catering Manager, as well as his wife Vongai Mango our resident Social Worker have not only just celebrated their first wedding anniversary, but that in a commitment to a term on the ministry team at Shekinah Care Centre.
This young couple are well qualified in their individual fields. Alois having done a number of catering and catering management courses, as well as manage a couple of restaurants as experience before coming to Shekinah. Indeed he has already proved very capable in turning a very ordinary looking, but essential menu (that has to meet all State Departmental criteria), into a meal that looks, and tastes a culinary delight. Vongai qualified as a social Worker after studying at the University of Cape Town, and worked in a number of organizations dealing with street kids in Cape Town before joining the Shekinah team of professionals. Having served a mandatory three month period they have settled into the ministry routines and their presence is having a positive impact.
Further updates
We have had a number of routine Social Development and Health Department visits and consultations of late, and are pleased to be able to report that although such “inspections” can be trying at times, the staff have pulled together and the overall situation is satisfactory. However we are looking for funding to refurbish our kitchen (this is long overdue). Wooden cupboards and fittings just do not last with the volume of food preparation, and amount of dishes passing daily through the kitchen. We are looking to completely refit with stainless steel (as most institutions, restaurants, and industrial kitchens that handle volumes such as ours) are fitted. The costs are very high, even though we have been quoted a fair price for our specific needs. Your support either in kind and or prayer would be greatly appreciated in this regard.
We critically need two care givers, as well as a nurse on staff as a matter of urgency. If you have the call of God upon your life to serve in either of these ministry positions, or know of anyone who could, even if be on a short term temporary basis, please make contact with the Centre. We believe in a ministry of excellence, and desire to fill these roles as soon as possible.
All the very best, and may our gracious Lord be a blessing to you, and give you hope for the future. – Mike, Director.
