35 Years of Ministry Thanksgiving Service

With Guest Speaker Angus Buchan - 19 November 2011

Although the inclement weather obviously caused many people to decide not to make the trip to New Hanover, as we did not have the numbers we expected, it was nonetheless a glorious event. I believe the objective for the meeting was achieved.

As an Administrative Board we wanted to have a Thanksgiving service to praise God for keeping the work vibrant and relevant for the past 35 years. Indeed God was glorified, and Jesus exalted on the day, and we are convinced that all who attended were blessed of the Lord – a true Shekinah encounter with the Living God.

Steve Rothquel and Marc McKinley from City Hill church, assisted on sound by one of the Board members Grant Nelson, led praise and thanksgiving – and indeed this was a joyous time. The pipers and drummer who marched down from the Centre to the marquee playing Shekinah’s theme song “Amazing Grace”, then led by Steve and Marc singing this timeless hymn brought tears to many eyes. The testimonies of three individuals who have been through the Shekinah programme, revealed the work of grace that God did in each of their lives. No longer a statistic of part of the substance dependant group in South Africa, but now living a fulfilling lifestyle and having a meaningful role in society, with family, and meeting their responsibilities, being led by the Spirit of the Lord on a daily basis.

Angus Buchan brought a word not only for the "guests" being treated at the Centre, and past guests, but to all who attended, a challenging word, to accept responsibility, and live a lifestyle that will indeed reflect the truth of Paul’s writings in his letter to the Corinthians, “if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, and all things have become new”.

To all who contributed whether in talent, time, organising, practical giving or serving, we thank you. To all who attended we trust  that you continue in the blessing of the Lord.
